THE ANGLO GERMAN LOW STARS
- "all the music from the motion picture sound-track "the night of the amazon - a european roadmovie" as performed by the Anglo German Low Stars
...is as the title itself explains, a soundtrack to a European road movie. This unusual and charming film is the debut by the young Greek director Alexis Mueller. Filmed in atmospheric grainy black and white, the movie tells the story of a 20year old dancer , Lilian from Las Vegas, who is searching for her idol Isadora Duncan (known as founder of modern dance; she in fact died in a both bizarre and tragic car accident in the 1930s - her silk scarf got into the wheel of her Bugatti cabriolet and strangled her...). Travelling through Europe in an old
Volvo Amazon, Lilian discovers a completely different world to the one which she thought awaited her. Droll situations, surprise comedy, and twisted characters are all to be found in this journey through Europe, ending with a surprise end-sequence at the grave of Marc Bolan. One of the films charms is that it has no time for stereotypes or cliches, due in some part to the achievements of complete unknown amateur actors and actresses. This compilation of the film's music underlines in every aspect the "bitter-sweet" mood of the film and allows a unique and worthwhile aspect of European musicianship, not usually possible in todays world of MTV/VIVA, etc. These are artists who frequent the underground venues, clubs, bars of Europe mostly still undiscovered, and yet making great music. This is an exciting trip of discovery which delves deep beneath the floorboards of the culture jungle. A more fitting soundtrack to the film for atmosphere and charme is unimaginable.
Taking in aspects of Lo-Fi Pop, Easy Listening, singer-songwriterattitude alongside more jazzier angles, the artists are certainly not afraid of experimentation. The end result allows the listener even having not seen the film yet, to sit back, relax, and enjoy the trip using his or her own imagination. An exceptional album featuring Erich (solo-accordeonist & easy listening organ/keyboardplayer with German pop-outfit Bazooka Cain), Colt aka.
Harry Coltello (solo-instrumental guitarplayer between C&W/Surf/Jazz), Mäkkelä's Trash Lounge (lofi-pop/elektro chanson; GER/FIN), Clive Product (singer/songwriter; Reading/UK), Grae J. Wall & Andy Keeble (Trash-Folk from St. Albans/UK) & Alain Briant (LoFi Pop; Paris/France).
