DESERT PLANET
- „mario built my hot rod "
To be honest - what do you think the average music consumer would expect a group from Finnish Lapland to sound like? Probably everything but 8-Bit inspired space-punkrock-disco. As a matter of fact this is exactly what Jukka Tarkiainen and Jari Mikkola aka. Desert Planet are doing - writing/programming sparkling pop-anthems bent over their keyboards in the solitude of ever-lasting polar nights. Music that
sounds as if your old-fashioned Gameboy's just about to atomize a Playstation 2. Quite obvious that stuff like this finds biggest consent from Japan to the US and back to old Europe. Desert Planet guys are mixing together their two favourite things: oldschool computer games and music that rocks. They take influences from the 80īs arcade games, 8-bit computer scene, chip-music, coin-operated games, b-class sci-fi movies and blend them into upbeat computer pop or buzzing electronic rock. They use the sounds of those legendary Commodore and Amiga computers and mix them with more modern and mainstream sounds. This unique and fun mix have been accepted also by 8-bit community around the globe. Possibly their punkrock background is a reason for Desert
Planet being more Electro-Punk than Disco. Or to put it that way - more a hysterical, heavy Kraftwerk than Daft Punk. And besides they're a damn good live-band! Latest when Desert Planet get on stage in their B-movie-space-suits with their green helmets and start pushing the buttons of their laptops, accomplished by the mind-blowing projections of the third member of the stage-lineup, VJ Antti Hovila, even the last skeptic will have to admit that here comes one of the most vital and entertaining live-acts they've ever seen. And I tell you what: they're just about to conquer your very planet!
