DAN BLOCKER - ”Poems From The Sun”
This is the first 3-track cd-single in 9pm Records’ ”Burning Art”-series and it’s in another way something special too. It’s Dan Blocker’s first release in 16 years after leaving his former band The Tundra Talk, one of the most promising psychedelic guitar-pop bands from the south of Germany in the late 80s.
They released one 7” (”One Million Tears”) in 1987 on Sputnik Music (the label that was responsible for all the Milkshakes, Wild Billy Childish and Thee Headcoats releases in Germany) that instantly went on heavy rotation on the WDR, one of the big public radios in Germany.
There
were reports and rumours of both weird and mesmerizing
live-performances of that three-piece for some few years
after the release of the single. And – that was
it! It happened as if the band just vanished from one
day to the other. In the early 90s a full-length album
has apparently been recorded (so they say) but never made
it to public.
Now, sixteen years after the only release of The Tundra Talk, their lead-singer /songwriter Dan Blocker is back with three psychedelic-pop gems. Three songs making their way between some Martin Newell-ish structures, classical piano spots and strange, flurrying bits crackling in the background. Where else but on 9pm Records’ ”Burning Art”-series such would suit better? We’re proud to present this outstanding piece of pop-music.
