MATT EVERETT - "Once"
Some of you might know Matt as being a sideman for the Fern Knight, Iditarod or a member of the Eyesores (all of them like Matt from Providence/Rhode Island). In 2003 he’s been part of the Mäkkelä’s Trash Lounge & Mano Nelson -Tour through Germany and of course there are his viola-parts on Will Oldham’s „Ease Down The Road”-album. The six songs of „once” have been recorded with guest-appearances of Margie Wienk (Fern Knight) on double-bass/backing vocals and Sara Stalnaker (Cello). Bittersweet songs that do surprisingly not sound very American. More like something in the vein of Martin Newell, Syd Barrett or Nick Drake. What makes „once” even more sympathetic is the warmth and intimacy of the recording. Just like sitting in a snug little smalltown cafe with a blizzard raging outside while you’re having a cup of hot chocolate and losing yourself in thoughts.
