Saturday, 22-09-01 | The Anglo German Low trip to France

Loading the gear, kissing the Anker crew and our friends from Fuerth goodbye we're setting out for France in the early afternoon of September 20. Quite a trip ahead of us. Something like 1200 k's to go. When I start my first shift some 20 Kms from the French border in Starsbourg I'm still feeling kinda shaky. Probably too much of a party yesterday. It's pissing down while we go through the Alsace on Route Nationale 4 and Andy presumes it won't take us too long to reach the coast if the raining continues...
200 kms before paris Mano starts his driving shift. Commander Colt is pissed in the rear of the van while we get lost on motorways around Paris. After passing the Versailles palace the fog starts. And I'm talking about FOG! I'm back on the driver seat meanwhile and I do not dare to go faster than 70 kph though the French truck drivers all go the kamikaze way...
80 kms to go for the coast I'm feeling horribly tired... while the rest of the blokes are asleep I'm anyway quite glad driving and thinking about the past days, Gaby back home, the meaning of existence and the fact that I spent a fortune on a Gretsch "Astro Jet". All of a sudden the road stops and I almost ran the van into Mont St. Michel. It's 4.30 a.m., Friday, September 21st. Mano and me go for a walk through sleeping Mont St. Michel feeling really wasted.
